Hoffman Tips - Showers

Let’s get back to the basics. We all take showers with one main goal: to get clean. So, how would you feel knowing you’re actually getting a face full of tiny bacteria when you wash?

It’s true, shower heads can harbor bacteria that come spraying into your face when you turn on the faucet. However, people with normal immune systems have little to fear. These microbes are more of a concern for people with compromised immune systems like those undergoing cancer treatment or recent organ transplant recipients.

Scientists from the University of Colorado tested 45 showers in five states and 30% of which contained a significant amount of Mycobacterium avium, which can lead to lung diseases. If you or a family member have an immune system that is not up to par, you can invest in a special shower head with a disposable filter. This way microbes have a harder time clinging on to the faucet.
