Bob Bruno, VP/WOR Programming Consultant
|
Bob Bruno began his broadcasting career in 1965 as an on-air personality and program director at several metro area stations including WCMC/Wildwood, WKIP/Poughkeepsie, WVNJ/Newark and WVIP/Mount Kisco. In 1975, Bob was named program director of Metromedia’s flagship station in New York, WNEW. Bob joined RKO Radio’s legendary flagship station, WOR in 1978, beginning his tenure as program director, a position he held for nearly a decade. Under his direction, WOR not only maintained its position as New York’s top-rated AM station; it became the most listened-to talk radio station in America. In July 1988, Bob was promoted to General Manager of WOR, a rare promotion for a programmer in the heavily sales driven radio industry and a tribute to his professional ability. In recognition of his dedication and outstanding performance, Bob was given his Vice President stripes in 1988. In 1989, Buckley Broadcasting purchased WOR Radio and in 1992 Buckley formed the WOR Radio Network giving Bob the chance to oversee and direct its creation. Beginning with only 15 stations, the WOR Radio Network today boasts over 400 affiliates nationwide and in Canada. Bob Bruno is a longtime active member of the broadcast community serving on the Boards of Directors for New York Market Radio (NYMRAD), and the New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA). In 2007, Bob retired from WOR as the longest tenured General Manager in the New York City radio marketplace and now serves as programming consultant to WOR and the WOR Radio Network. In his leisure time, Bob enjoys great books, great music, mediocre tennis and whenever possible, horseback riding. Longtime residents of Mahwah, New Jersey, Bob and wife Arlene have relocated to Warwick, New York to their country dream home. |
