You may want to opt out on ice cream at the end of your next meal and go for the yogurt instead.
Researchers suggest a serving of yogurt a day could keep your breath odor-free. Bad breath originates not just from inside of the mouth but your digestive tract as well. If you balance a low sugar diet with plenty of natural fiber, you can maintain the health of your GI tract.
Yogurt has active bacteria that fights off the bad bacteria in your mouth. And, according to the American Dietetic Association, foods like yogurt, cheese and milk create a hostile environment for bacteria growth. The study also shows reduced levels of plaque and gum disease by yogurt eaters.
Researchers measured the bacteria levels of 24 healthy volunteers and found an 80% reduction in hydrogen sulfide, an odor-causing compound.
As long as you avoid the overly processed or sugar added yogurts, you may be one step closer to fresh breath.
