Say goodbye to stress and anxiety. The great American past time of chewing bubble gum may have other benefits than just passing time or keeping your breath minty. Researchers have found gum chewers have reduced levels of stress and anxiety when multi-tasking.
A study from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia say gum can increase performance, keep people alert and remain relaxed. Of the 40 participants chosen, gum chewers showed a 17 percent reduction in anxieties during mild stress and nearly 10 percent in moderate stress. Improvements in alertness also increased by nearly 19 percent.
While the study was funded by gum manufacture Wrigley, it seems the key to calmness may be fresh breath and a stick of gum.
